4.1 Swimming
Single turn course with an Australian exit, held at Praia da Baía de Sines.
The transition park is installed in the Vasco da Gama Promenade.
The swimming course may change and is subject to weather and sea conditions at the time of the race. If it is not possible, it will be replaced by a race course.
Rolling Start
The race will be made through Rolling Start to increase the safety of athletes, reduce anxiety and improve times and experience in a general way.
What is it?
The start of the swimming segment in Rolling Start distributes the athletes according to the expected time to complete the course of swimming. After divided by the sections according to the time, the athletes are aligned in six corridors and every five seconds the start is given to only six triathletes.
The number of runners and/or the time between each start can be adjusted until just close to the event date, according to the requirements.
The time of each athlete only begins counting after passing the chip in the timing system that will be placed after the corridors.
This method reduces the risks of swimming, avoiding large clusters of people and allows each triathlete to swim according to their rhythm and technique.
Rolling Start Dynamics
There will be three sections, on land, where the triathletes will distribute according to the estimated time to complete the swim course - 2 km.
The breakdown is as follows:
- < 32 minutes: triathletes intending to complete the swimming segment in less than 32:00 minutes;
- ≥ 32 min a < 42 minutes: triathletes intending to complete the swimming segment between 32:00 minutes and less than 42:00 minutes;
- ≥ 42 minutes: triathletes intending to complete the swimming segment with a time equal to or greater than 42:00 minutes.
After all the triathletes are distributed through the three sections, the organisation will direct them to the starting corridors where every five seconds a group of six triathletes will start. The number of triathletes in each match and/or the time between each match can be adjusted until just close to the event date, according to the requirements.
The Cut-Off swimming segment is 1 hour and starts counting from the moment of each triathlete start.
Note: each triathlete is responsible for the choice of starting section, and should tailor the choice to the swimming level and experience. The organisation asks all triathletes for an honest choice so that all participants can have the best experience possible.
4.2 Cycling
The cycling course starts at Passeio Vasco da Gama and covers a total of 80 km. In short, the course involves three laps of approximately 27 km.
The cycling course may change. The athlete must start the last section of the cycling segment until 11:20 am (the cut off will be installed at the end of Av. Vasco da Gama, towards Porto Covo, approximately at km 52); after the time limit, athletes will be prevented from circulating in the return zone of the course given the need to open car circulation.
4.3 Running
The running course starts and finishes at Vasco da Gama Promenade, consists of three 6 km laps and totals 18 km. The route has a 107 metre elevation gain, combining asphalt, pavement, and cycle path.
The courses may change.
The time limit to start the race segment is at 12:20 pm.
The time limit to complete the race is at 12:50 PM.
