Swimming - Rolling Start

What is it?

The Rolling Start distributes athletes according to their estimated swim completion time. Athletes should choose a starting box suited to their swimming ability and experience.

Rolling Start Dynamics

There will be three starting boxes:

  • < 32 minutes: triathletes intending to complete the swimming segment in less than 32:00 minutes;
  • ≥ 32 min to < 42 minutes: triathletes intending to complete the swimming segment in 32:00 minutes or more but less than 42:00 minutes;
  • ≥ 42 minutes: triathletes intending to complete the swimming segment with a time equal to or greater than 42:00 minutes.

The organisation will direct athletes to the starting lanes, where six triathletes will start every five seconds. The number of triathletes in each start and/or the interval between starts may be adjusted closer to the event date according to operational requirements.

Each athlete's time starts only after their chip passes the timing system installed after the starting lanes.

The swimming segment Cut-Off is 1 hour from each triathlete's individual start.

Relays

The relay box is located after the ≥ 42 minutes box. Relay teams will be the last to start.
